The Olympic Games will be Britain’s largest peacetime logistical exercise. All spectators are expected to access Games events by public transport, walking or cycling. No provision is being made for spectator car parking at any of the venues and parts of the road network are being reserved for use only by VIPs, Teams, National Olympic Committees and security personnel.
Transport for London (TfL) has put in place comprehensive arrangements to cope with the expected significant increase in customers during the Games, to ensure that spectators can get to Games events safely and on time. They include:
• Tube, District Light Rail (DLR) and Overground services will to run one hour later than usual (last trains to leave central London and other key venues around 01:30)
• Extra train services in late evening will be provided to cater for venue ‘bump out’
• Around 200 extra buses have been provided in London.
• A dedicated “Javelin” train service is being provided from King’s Cross to Stratford (Olympic Park station) with 8-10 trains per hour.
TfL has provided a “journey planner” to help spectators plan their journey to Games events: http://www.getaheadofthegames.com/
Use of Private Vehicles:
Access to the road network in central London for vehicles without Olympic accreditation will be severely curtailed during the Games, when the Olympic Route Network (ORN) is activated. This is necessary to facilitate the movement of participants, VIPs, etc., to and from Olympic venues during the Games. Details of the extent of the disruption to the road network, and how it may affect you, can be found at:
